Why is This Named After Martin J. Horwitz?

Marty Horwitz had a big heart that he shared with his family, friends, and business associates.  He also shared it with the Cincinnati Museum of Athletics at the Cincinnati Athletic Club.  He was the Museum’s Founding President and biggest cheerleader.

The goal of the museum is to promote Cincinnati sports.  While we love our professional teams, the museum’s emphasis is to celebrate Cincinnati’s amateur athletes – those boys and girls, men and women play for reasons other than pay.  The museum wants to celebrate the suburban kid who builds his character one foul shot at a time learning the value of hard work.  The museum wants to celebrate the inner city kid who trains nightly with the speed bag to earn the profit of discipline.  The museum wants to celebrate the mid-level executive who straps on his running shoes for health and to remind himself that much of success is perseverance.

These were all values that Marty applied throughout his life and that the museum wants to promote and recognize.

Marty Horwitz’s heart gave out on February 7, 2009.  But the love he gave to amateur sports and the Cincinnati Museum of Athletics is being carried on by many who are organizing the Second Annual Martin J. Horwitz Fight Night on March 5, 2010.  The Fight Night will be 10 rounds of amateur boxing done (Delete word “done”) by men who choose to step into the ring to celebrate themselves and to celebrate the man who celebrated them
